The sunny, warm early spring weather is great for bees but, because it takes more than three weeks for new bees to reach flying age and at the moment there will be few bees of that age in the hive, we will probably not see much increase in bee numbers for a week or two.
As spring advances those bees that are working outside will find more and more flowers. One of the best spring flowers is willow (male flowers pictured right, female flowers left) and soon another of the bee’s favourites, dandelions, will be everywhere.
If the weather stays good there could be a lot of bees by April…
